A personal response system that allows students to participate in lectures by answering to questions with smartphones or notebooks.
The Viennese University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (www.boku.ac.at) requested a tool to allow the easy participation of students in lectures. Teachers should be able to ask questions to the audience and show the results in real time.
A web app powered by jQuery mobile and a custom PHP framework allows students to answer questions with their smartphone or from a notebook. The questions are shown with a beamer. Students open the web app and insert the voting id provided with the question. They can select an answer and the results will be updated in realtime on the beamer.
A raspberry pi powered sms voting gateway is currently in evaluation and testing. This would allow students to vote by sending their answer via sms e.g. in areas without wifi or data service.
